Back in 2001, I went into the Home Depot (my friend used to call it the Home Despot) to get some chain cut. I asked about 3 people, none of which said they could help me. So I walked up towards the "Customer Service" section and practically yelled, "The Attention I am getting in this place is just knocking my socks off." After that I did get some help.

Another great article with great info and insights. I will say though, that there still are a handful of us business owners that are customer-oriented, treat our employees fairly and compensate them with good wages and overtime--which they want-and go the extra mile. Over 50% of our business is by referral and we are currently booked 8 months out. We make a decent living, not a killing. We strive to be the best and treat others as we would want to be treated. God has blessed us and he has provided. If we truly serve God, it will show in all aspects of our lives, including how we treat customers and employees. Good mom and pops are harder to find, but they are still out there.

I know there are good business owners out there, Lisa. Sometimes I paint with too broad a brush. Glad to hear you're one of them. Thanks!

Yes, treating customers well will reap dividends down the road. I refuse to shop at "Big Box" stores and have always tried to support Mom and Pops.

You basically covered it all regarding insurance companies and the pigotry (Yes, I made up that word) of CEOs. I try to shop at smaller businesses when I can, but a lot of what they sell is either from China or Mexico. If I have the bucks laying around, I will try and purchase something of quality, as in furniture, particularly (Spent big bucks on a chair and love seat which was well worth the price, American made and excellent quality-not one of those big box chains either). When it comes to sitting on something or a mattress, I don't want others to share their DNA with mine. lol And I have also bought many items from Craigs List where you can buy something used that isn't so beat up, or spend the time to fix it yourself at minimal cost. Those sellers are more than willing to cut a deal. If GoodWill wasn't so popular, they wouldn't have so many customers shopping there looking to pick up scraps from the rich; I have found some clothing items with the original price tags on them. To your topic of insurance coverage, I couldn't agree more with car insurance. I had a person of color steal my vehicle back in 1993 and he was supposed to pay me restitution. It cost me $500 to fix the damages he caused and my deductible went up. I believe I received about $80 from the little scumbag and he's still out there committing crimes. His PO was a woman of color, so I saw the anti-white racism back then. She could have cared less if he honored what he was told by the court to do. Its another reason to move to small town America. I could go on and on as I couldn't agree with your assessments more. If one is smart, life teaches you exactly whats what and who's who, and ways to try and dodge the bullets. Like it or not. Its one long battle that at the end, no one wins. You go out the same way you come in - With Nothing! Too bad the rich don't get it, but they will when they're hollering and crying from the depths of Hell. God Bless, Don!
