I was an enlisted in the Navy. I served aboard an aircraft carrier. It was peacetime but the ship was an industrial environment and a floating gas tank. When anyone thanks me for my service I thank them but tell them it was the worst experience of my life. On a positive note I earned a college degree which was paid for by Uncle Sam. Now that I am older I see what a scam our foreign interventions are and really appreciate people like you discussing our ridiculous foreign policy. Bless you and your readers!
I almost got shipped to the Gulf, but had a medical issue that prevented my enlistment until 6 months had passed. (Sometimes my never ending bad luck works in my favor). I saw 3 friends from my Fleet Hospital off that night. My best friend came home and started drinking. She was really messed up and eventually, she blew up at me over nothing, and I've not seen her since. It still hurts... I was in a grocery store and some message thanking us for our 'service' was blaring on the intercom. In keeping with my reserved style, I was yelling like a crazy person about not providing service; all wars are bankers' wars; what freedom are you referring to ETC. The truly sad part? Nobody paid any attention to me.
I appreciate you sharing that, Stephanie. As the last surviving soldier from WWI, Harry Patch, put it, war is organized murder and nothing else. Thanks.
I have often had the sad and horrifying thought that many of our war heroes may be or might have been those who got a kick out of killing their fellow man. In other words, are some of them actually just murderers? I despise the draft but the draft is one way to ensure that normal men with normal outlooks and mentality are on the battlefield fighting probably not so much for country but to get back home to family, children, and Friends. Lett no one read this incorrectly please-- we have veterans in our family that performed well in war and no doubt shot and killed many who did not have murder in their hearts at all but just a strong desire to accomplish the tasks that they were given and get back home as soon as possible. And we are very proud of them.
Yes many times dark clouds have silver linings. (And always check those silver linings- there might be a dark cloud attached.)
The First Gulf War was quite an awakening for me. In just two months, Saddam went from our ally against those Evil Iranians to Adolf Hitler 2.0 after he invaded a rinky-dink country 90% of Americans could not have found on a map with minimal lose of life- fairy tails about Iraqis bayoneting babies notwithstanding.
And we were all supposed to care.
But Israel slaughters the Lebanese Catholics who were fighting for their freedoms by the tens of thousands, but hey, nothing to see there.
Nor in Uganda, or Ethiopia, or Former French Central Africa- whatever they call that now.
That was when America the Great began to unravel, and the moral high ground was never the same.
I no longer thank those who serve in the military. I hope that most of them realize they're guinea pigs for death and destruction all over the world. My wish is that they protect OUR borders, not another country's. Our poor boys and girls are never the same when they return to their Mother Country, either mentally or physically, or both. Then to get treated like such second hand trash by the VA. For those who took off for Canada during Viet Nam, I say, good for you. You were smart to dodge the draft. If those who hold the power want to start a war, then arm them with a weapon of choice, take your 10 paces and turn and face your enemy, like a real man or woman. I am so fed up with this lousy decrepit government telling us what to do while we support them with our hard earned tax dollars. These people seem to do so well at living high on the hog while so many struggle.
I spent Memorial Day cutting down trees and gardening. I thought it was labor day. At any rate, my Memorial Day is Nov 2nd, the Feast of all Souls. But at any rate, there are some soldiers I would like to especially thank for their service...
We'll start with the Union Soldiers during the "Civil War" who raped helpless women, turned elderly men out of their homes- in some cases even stealing their blankets and those especially sadistic individuals who tormented children by burning their favorite toys.
Then there were those soldiers who raped the Indian Maidens of the Comanches, Apaches, Seminoles, and Hurons during the last Indian Wars in the 1880's. Unfortunately, it was only Custer who had a last stand. Nobody talks about the Last Stands of Sitting Bull or Silver Eagle.
Then there were those soldiers who, after they had charged up San Juan Hill, came down into Havana and looted and plundered for three days. And the same befell Puerto Rico and the Philippines.
And then we had those brave airmen who strafed refugees from Dresden, Hamburg, and Berlin- just gunned down women and children and old men who escaped with the clothes on their back in tatters.
And of course we have the Prison guards who dutifully kept Japanese, German, and Italian Americans in internment camps on American soil during WW2, and oversaw perhaps a million Germans starving to death or dying of exposure in the Rhine Meadows in 1946.
And it only goes downhill from there- Laos, Hanoi, Baghdad...
Our Lady of Fatima, pray for us. You are our only hope!
I hate Memorial Day Weekend. The Draft Lottery of August 21, 1971 for us boys born in 1952 ruined the lives of some of my best friends. I got a high number. Lucky me.
I just read that Prime Minister Sunak of the UK will bring back military service in the UK for 18 year olds if the Conservatives win the July 4th snap election.
The draft is returning in the West because the Big Swinging Dicks want to fight Russia and probably China, too.
I don't know who they are going to draft. Most Brits are too dumb to clean a rifle or two fat to scale a wall. The only candidates are the video game jocks who might be able to conduct one heck of a drone war.

Keep yelling its your therapy .... Truly we are all fooled til we awake.
I've screamed so much I have laryngitis. I'm done screaming- nobody listens.
As I’ve made friends with vets over the years, every one who saw combat admits it was BS.
Great article Don !!!
Thanks, Greg!

You will love "American Memory Hole," WW. I cover a lot of these unreported atrocities done by the "good guys." Thanks.
I ordered American Memory Hole and have an official countdown. Just have to sweat through June and July.
I appreciate that, WW. Thanks!

It's the government celebration of war. Thanks.

WW: Maybe they'll draft all those young men coming over the border.
I think they already have.
What border kids "For its the New American Century" c/o Henry homo kiss your ass fag
