So sorry. It is becoming a universal story. I can’t count everybody and have to write them down. Hugs xxxxx

That was a very nice homage to your friend, Joe, Don. I've done research myself on people I've met in life or old dates, many of whom have died now. One person I horribly regret not calling was an old part-time worker of mine who passed away "suddenly" (gee, I wonder what that was from......). I had wanted to call her so many times and didn't. She loved cats as much as I did and such a fun person to be around. Always laughing. I have another friend who I am going to call this weekend that I haven't seen in years. We keep in touch via Christmas cards. I know her husband is ill now.

The 70s and 80s were such an integral part of my life. I relive them by going on YT and listening to the music of those eras. If I was like Bewitched, I'd wrinkle my nose and go back to stay. It was a much more carefree time in life where this wasn't all this hatred and angst. Although the cars were so much crappier.

Sounds like you hung around a really nice bunch of guys and enjoyed your life. Your road hasn't ended yet, so I'm sure you'll make new near and dear friends.

Yes, all Professional Sports contests are "Fixed". "Rigged", to be more precise. I am sure the Insiders enjoy reaping billions from the Vegas Gambling Orgies. Almost as much as they enjoy Wall Street, where the players take their gambling just a tad more seriously, and the stakes are much higher. (The Vegas betting, rigged and corrupt as it is, bankrupts only the dupes. It does not threaten to bring the economic house crashing down on the rest of us.)

Back in the 1980's, I was a big Philadelphia Eagles fan. I had a Jersey for every day of the week, and three for Sunday. (And yes, those Jersey's were expensive as Hell, even in the off season at a discount warehouse.) I had a subscription to the Eagles newspaper/magazine. Draft week was a big week for me. I used to hang out at the preseason practices and chat with fellow maniacal fans about the prospects for the upcoming season. I remember legendary plays like The Field Goal at the Giants game, and The Fog Bowl in Chicago.

But in 1989, I became disenfranchised. Three key players "held out" because they did not like their contracts. I came to realize that these men were nothing but a bunch of overgrown high school kids- all they cared about what was in it for them. And to hell with the fans, their families, and their legacies.

A series of events led me to see the dark underbelly of the game- the destroyed lives, the financial raping of the fans, the cover-ups, the steroids, the lies... It was ugly six ways from Sunday.

The people who patronize "professional sports" are complete idiots whose money could be better spent even at a brothel.

Our Lady of Fatima, pray for us. You are our only hope!

I subscribe to about 100 substacks and in my opinion Don is the absolute best writer here. Although there are very many excellent stacks, too many to list, Don writes to the heart and soul, and that is not east to do.
