I received a Victoria's Secret mailer today...even though I have never purchased anything from them. It featured five models. One was a slender White woman...and the other four were fat people of color. Although I've known this was going on for some time...it was mildly shocking to see it on my doorstep. I've been going to the beach a lot this summer, and I wish I could find a beach with no other people. It has been a parade of ugliness. Obese of both genders, dressed in black and covered with tattoos. I'm not judging folks on things they can't change. This ugliness is DELIBERATE.

I gave up expecting people to acknowledge my texts and emails a long time ago. The rare reply comes only if the person wants something from me. I try to stay alone as much as possible, but there are times when I must get help for certain jobs. The past two years I've had way too much need for service people. Now that almost everything that could break down has done so, I'm hoping for a little peace going forward.

You may have heard me say this before, Kris, but in my novel "The Unreals," I had the characters make up lists of the smallest minority groups in the world. One of them was "overweight Victoria's Secret models." I never could have dreamed that the obese would start being the preferred choice for models. America 2.0. Thanks!

Yes, I remember that. Victoria's Secret is not selling to men, they're selling to women. The vast majority of American woman under fifty (although there are plenty over fifty, as well) eat this stuff up. Their standards of what looks good have been so distorted by pop-culture, they actually think ugly tattoos, piercings, neon hair, blubber, black clothing and big black plastic frame glasses are cool and attractive. There is no internal sense of beauty, because there is no authentic person in there.

These days, the majority of people on earth are pretty much blank slates...with no internal dialogue, and no life of the mind. They happily consume the garbage feed to them by the global elite. There is zero discernment. For some reason, American woman seem to be the most possessed by this mind-control. When I hear the young American airhead accent (which I only hear online these days) I feel physically ill, like I want to retch.

Australian women, for some reason, are worse. But American women are not far behind.

Whats worse is seeing a fat person in a thong bikini. Like, Seriously? You have no couth? No personal integrity? Its why I like driving smaller highways and stopping in at rest areas. I'd much rather look at the trees.

I remember "Victoria's Secret" as a big mall store in the '80's. They were very risky and ribald back then, and were frontrunning the cultural decline by turning women into mere objects of lust. They were also subtly pushing the "Gay" culture, especially by obviously pimping younger girls and men as models. I never thought it would come to this.

One of my undergrad classmates at my Catholic SChool is a bigwig on their board of directors- my school used to boast about it. (It is sort of like St Peter boasting he had a bishop on the Sanhedrin...)

Victoria's Secret in third behind just the Trumpenstein Project and the Cop Shops that, if they burned to the ground, I might be tempted to celebrate.

Very interesting post. I am especially concerned that destructive narcissism is actively encouraged in our society. One of the most salient features of narcissism is lack of empathy. Ugh!

Expand full comment

Absolutely, Susan. All those young girls, especially, taking endless selfies may look cute sometimes, but is indicative of a really excessive self-love. And, you are right- it's directly correlated to the shocking diminishment of empathy in our society. Thanks.

social media is a narcissist's happy hunting ground. Especially the women seek those whom they might destroy and then target them. Meanwhile, the high-school queens set themselves up with their noxious selfies and profiles. It takes the "Bullyocracy" to a whole new level. And I think this is all by design. (And even Substack is beginning to look like Social Media to an extent.)

When I borrow films from the local library I always turn on subtitles for the American movies. I picked up a film series from my local video store and two entire episodes were missing. On TV Sophia Bush from Chicago P.D. is the queen of mumble. I never understood a word she said. Also, no matter where I shop (not that many places) Im overcharged so I always accept the receipt they now offer. They used to automatically give you one. For a while a mysterious charge appeared regularly on my receipt at the local healthy food store. While apologizing for giving me the wrong change, cashier gave me wrong change again ($5), no joke. On one occasion (I usually pay cash) my debit card purchase was charged to a local restaurant. That’s a real puzzler. I ordered a shirt from my fav on line shop and received a pair of leggings.

Yesterday I tried rescuing a little pup from the local shelter. They turned me away claiming I couldn’t provide enough exercise for the little guy. They kept me waiting a half hour and never brought him out to meet me. I guess living in a cage after enduring simultaneously half dozen jab nasty chemicals and other nasty drugs, undergoing surgery and being fed the cheapest chit food, is superior to the love and attention and good life I could provide. My rant…the majority of animal shelters are just like govt, a scam run purely for profit. Dogs are bought from other states and sometimes other countries, because there just aren’t enough dogs here in Maine, and are housed is tiny cells alone 23 hours a day. I watched One of the multiple long term residents a beautiful yellow lab jumping manically like a Jack in the box, or like the caged tiger that was so damaged that it used to walk back and forth and back and forth and back and forth in the old days at the Central Park zoo. Granted many dogs that end up in shelter insane asylums are already damaged, but like with humans, the care/cures nearly always exacerbate the problems. I could go on. 💕💕💕

You are so spot on, Nancy. My very first foray into politics was at age 20, in 1980. I joined a group seeking to gain control of our county animal shelter. We managed to get our measure on the ballot. At that time, All of the shelters, both county and private, were corrupt to the core. They were all part of a network (which included local vets) of money making. The animals in their care truely were suffering. They all banded together peddling outrageous lies about our ballot measure. One naive member of our group was flabbergasted when her beloved vet refused our campaign literature to be placed in his office. It was my first presidential election, and I'll never forget voting for Ed Clark and our ballot measure...and I will never forget how completely disillusioned I was, when we got trounced.

I really feel for you, being rejected. I could tell you countless stories of people pleading to get a dog or cat off death row, and being refused for silly, made-up reasons. It is heart-wrenching. This is why it's been more than 40 years since I adopted from a shelter. The majority of people have this evil inside, which makes them go power-mad once they get in any kind of position where they can play God. They couldn't give a rat's *** about the animals in their care. It is EGO run amok. We saw this with the scamdemic. Governors, mayors, city council members, even store employees...enjoying their 15 minutes of playing dictator. We must exit their system, and start our own shelters etc. Some are doing so...yet I've seen private "rescues" morph into playing God. It is entrenched evil in humanity.

I guess it shouldn't surprise me that even animal shelters are corrupt, Kris and Nancy. Everything is corrupt. Thanks.

I totally agree. Megalomania run amok. I used to see it especially at drivers licence centers. They herd people like cattle, ask all sorts of ridiculous and prying questions to make sure you are going to be compliant, and the moment you show the least bit of disdain they act like you are some radical terrorist who is going to start shooting people and blow the place up- not that it couldn't use it.

My disillusion with local politics came while working with the Pro-Life movement. We were constantly misrepresented by the local issue of Pravda, and our quite well populated rallies were not covered. but let some radical feminist pro-abort come to town and garner a dozen attendees and they would have a photo-op that would make it look like the place was packed to the gills.

And don't even get me started on the cops...

That was back in the '80's- we were already Beyond Banana Republic...

Going to the DMV is one of my least favorite things to do. I can't even describe the relief I felt this year when I discovered I could renew my license online. Only the scamdemic paranoia could have wrought this change. Isn't it funny how all the hoops to jump through, and all the petty rules that ABSOLUTELY HAD TO BE FOLLOWED, or society would fall apart... suddenly were not necessary due to a phony pandemic?

My last trip to the DMV was in Missouri in 1995. First you have to pay the property tax on your vehicle and then you have to go to the office and give them the green slip to show you paid the tax. But to pay the tax you have to have the title, but they won't give you a title without a tax receipt. So I registered the vehicle in Kansas, and then got a title, took that to the Missouri Office and got the tax receipt. But then they said I did not have a Missouri address... which I most certainly did. At any rate, Missouri is not called the "Show Me" state for nothing. The farmers have to pay a property tax on EVERY CHICKEN. (And they wonder why all the dairy farmers fled Missouri for Iowa and Minnesota, and milk prices are so much higher...)

The only thing dumber than a politician is a dead chicken.

Yes, it breaks my heart. Entrenched evil it is, every thing as it appears is a big lie. I’ve come to believe I am an anarchist at heart. I also made a short foray into local politics and was unhinged when I realized nearly everyone in politics is there for their own personal gain. A better apartment, a good job…etc etc, etc. I do not like cops, lawyers, judges any judicial rep, government in total, gov agents, politicos, as far as I’m concerned no one on earth has authority over me. I hate the greedy impossibly rich psycho schemers behind the scenes and all religious dogma and the authorities that support it. If I do intentional harm to another (then I suffer the consequences at the hands of my fellow free thinkers). All institutional settings .. jails and psychiatric facilities that torture and cage the non violent for profit, just like animal shelters. I attended nursing school, don’t get me going on hospitals or health care, or doctors. It makes me sick that the majority allow all this cruelty and devastation to the human spirit. Just because it is doesn’t mean it’s our destiny, to be put in earth to suffer just like the tragedy of the dogs kept in cages called “shelters”.

Many and sharp the num’rous ills

Inwoven with our frame!

More pointed still we make ourselves

Regret, remorse, and shame!

And Man, whose heav’n-erected face

Man’s inhumanity to man

Makes countless thousands mourn!

No shortage of dogs in Kentucky, or any large city. If you want to adopt a dog, just go to any larger city and hang out around a restuarant dumpster, or consult a homeless commune. All sorts of breeds. They will be haggard, covered with ticks, flea infested, and have that wet dog smell. Bring plenty of blankets and make a concoction of mint oil and baking soda and dump it over Fido when you find him/her. That dog will be thanking you for the rest of his/her life.

The decline and fall of Civilization has been ongoing for years. I remember when the "Smart Phones" first came out. I got into a conversation with somebody putting in a sidewalk while walking my husky. Then his phone rings. He pulls it out an answers it, without so much as an "excuse me," and then just completely ignores me. After 30 seconds I just walked away, absolutely incredulous. And just the other day, as I was walking my Canine Trainwreck past the Airport B&B, someone was on the porch, looking at their I-Pad. I was practically on top of her, and wished her a nice day. She had to have heard me, but did not even look up from her device. It was the kind of rudeness I would have expected from my worst enemy back in the old days.

RSVP? What does that even mean. The last time I got invited to a party was I think in the third grade. And that was a neighbor's party I just happened to walk across. To say I was not very popular at school was an understatement.

I did not know you went back to the Washington Senators. I thought only fossils remembered those days. I do remember the old joke: "Washington, first in Big Government, and Last in the Majors." I used to be a big St Louis Cardinals fan in the 1970's. (My extended family, who were all Phillies and Pirates fans, used to call me a Birdbrain.) My greatest day was when Bob Forsch pitched a no-hitter, shutting out the Evil Phillies to propel the Cardinals into First Place in the National League East ahead of the Pirates, with the Phillies sinking behind the Cubs. (Do not ask me anything about Baseball today. I still think the Rockies and Marlins are Minor League, and I have no idear what the divisions currently are.) I got so totally disgusted with baseball beginning when Pete Rose signed that million dollar contract with the Phillies, walking out on the Reds, his career, and Tradition, all for some lousy bucks. That was the epitome of what America was becoming.

And ever since I became a Traditional Catholic... well, for a while my ma thought I was excommunicated, and my extended family thought I was crazy. And when a few years later I questioned the official narrative of 9-1-1 they thought I was even more crazy. At this point, I don't even know if half my extended family, and two of my brothers, are even dead or alive. My sister in law suddenly died, and I did not hear about it until six months later.

I only have one aunt who still talks to me, and that just barely. If I started walking south to Mexico, they would not know I was gone until next year.

And my family on my father's side was, when I was growing up, a very close-knit bunch of hillbillies. We all shared my grandma's house that had one barely functional bathroom and a kitchen table that seated 12. But all 30 of us somehow made it work. (These days I suppose I would arrested if I peed behind a tree outside.)

Our Lady of Fatima, pray for us. You are our only hope!

I feel your pain Don. You reminded me of my baseball and basketball hero’s of the 70s and 80s who’d run out ground balls and play defense for a twentieth of what they make today. I’d take Bird over LeBron for his loose ball play alone. Yes they’re almost unwatchable now.

What happened to ‘you’re welcome’ in response to ‘thank you’? ‘Of course’ is the Gen X and Y answer these days.

RSVP is in the same compost heap with thank you notes. If we even get one after sending a wedding gift it’s 2 sentences that were likely repeated over and over again. What happened to considering others better than yourself?

My take on the Mobil devices is they’ve been used by the Prince of the Power of the Air to sew discord, isolation and disease. We get physically sick from these things.

Even back in the good 'ol days the NBA left a lot to be desired. Larry Bird and Julius Irving were two buffaloes in the stampede. The shot clock and the three point shot totally changed the complexion of the game. Defense became all about how to commit fouls without getting noticed. And a lot of bodies started to be sprawled all over a hard wooden surface for what was allegedly a non-contact sport. The idiots on the court today would have been met by a fusillade of whistles just thirty seconds into play. Lane charging, double dribbling, and walking are so common its comical. If I would have played like that in High School I would have fouled out before halfway through the first quarter.

The only thing that was cheesier than the NBA was the NHL. "I was at the fight last night when a Hockey Game broke out..."

Anytime I feel like the quality of play in baseball has declined, I’ll watch an inning or two of, say, the 1960 World Series game 7, or Gibson striking out Tigers in 68. Quality of play is far better today, it’s just that the game is hardly ever enjoyable to watch, due, I think, to the new scientific approach to hitting, which seeks home runs, almost exclusively.

Basketball has suffered a different problem. The limitations of the game have made it terrible to watch. The reason girls college hoops has become popular is because their size and skill are appropriate for the size of the court and limitations of the game.

You know better than me about today's game, Crypto. I can't watch it. The ridiculous pitch counts alone- recently, some kid had a no-hitter through 6 (maybe 7) innings, and they took him out because he'd thrown too many pitches. Almost no complete games now. And why can't they bunt? I learned how to do that at eight years old in Little League. Thanks.

Imagine Nolan Ryan with a pitch count. It’s really painful to watch most of the time. Bunting has been lost because it’s such a low percentage success option. The worst for me is the free runner on second base during extra innings.

Look at the real old timers- Walter Johnson, Cy Young, etc. Almost every start was a complete game. Why didn't their arms drop off? Where was Tommy John surgery before the 1970s? The Nationals had a great young pitcher- Stephen Strasburg. They coddled and babied him so much- even shut him down for the playoffs when he was perfectly healthy- an unprecedented move. He was big and dominant, but a typical modern player- always hurt. And I do mean always. I think he had 1 or 2 complete games in his career. Anyhow, I could rant about baseball for a long time. Thanks, Crypto!

Obviously, baseball has changed. It's all about piling on the team stats and to hell with individual valor and stamina. Moreover, I think the players like it. I'm sure Bob Forsch was not feeling really dapper after hurling that no-hitter against the Phillies.

But on the other hand, I could not fathom pulling a pitcher who was having a perfect game after six innings. Is just so that he can have a shining ERA???

Watching a budding no-hitter used to be one of the most exciting facets of the game. Not too many people could boast they had watched a complete no-hitter...

I have not watched a baseball game since 1986, with the sole exception of a Kansas City Royals that was an official outing of the parish I worked for in Kansas City. That night was horrendous. The "Phanvision" or whatever was a total distraction from what was happening on the field, the organ music was deafening, and the behavior of the "fans" around us was atrocious. It was, believe it or not, worse than being at an Eagles-Redskins game at the Vet. (I don't think there is a Veterans Stadium or a Washington Redskins any more- I am becoming quite the fossil, and people won't even know what I'm talking about...)

Even in the good old days, at the Vet, around the 7th inning or so I would go all the way to the top of the stadium and look out across the Philadelphia Naval Yard and at all the WW2 era ships that were "mothballed" there. Even back in my teens I was beginning to feel like those ships- I really belonged somewhere else...

I have noticed this here in Milwaukee County, Democrat controlled, like Madison. Building more mega ugly apartment complexes then taking one lane and turning it into a bicycle lane. Hardly ever see any bikers. Traffic congestion to the max. No sense of planning, but I felt it too was done on purpose, to create chaos, anger, frustration, and of course, those breaking the law. But just wait, Kakula wants to let prisoners out of prison! Imagine that! Hell, even now we have restaurants that put out their summer dining sets on public sidewalks so those who actually want to walk the sidewalks have to go out into the streets, thus receiving a ticket.
