Really enjoyed reading your take on Social Security and the "Elderly." OOPS! I mean the old folks or as some say "Old Farts." Upon receipt of my next Soc Sec check, I plan on purchasing one of your books. Haven't decided which one yet. Thank you for doing what you do.

I used to play basketball with my boys up until around age 50. I was still pretty good. I am 63. Shot baskets earlier this year for the first time in a decade. Wow the rim seems so high? It was awkward shooting. Ball hitting the front rim. Not much fun at all. Maybe with a 9 ft rim it would be ok. Haha

I am afraid you have persuaded yourself that your youth was superior to the present. I am 66. I feel like I have been 46 most of my life. I was forced on Social Security in 2019 after my job sank beneath the waves as had the four jobs prior. For three months I have tried to fight my way back into the job market. Good luck for more than a glance and a sneer to earn a decent wage over 40.

Youth is merely a life phase. Older people if they choose can be more vibrant than youth. Clearly they are more intelligent and less emotion driven and less reckless.

As to writing-no one reads deeply. Or few read widely might be the better way of saying it.

And why otherwise? Reading is simply one more way of processing life. As is Cinema or Theater. Really no need to privilege words as pixels or words as type. We do not privilege spoken word after all and eloquence away from politics or law falls on deaf ears.

And after all a writer falls into two categories. One who writes and one who writes to sell. If you are a writer uninterested in audience but who has something to say you can still market it. This said if you wish to make money from writing it really is better to think of the audience and seek publishers appealing to this audience.

Thank you for another great piece of writing Don. You seem extremely youthful by the way. My wife was born the same year as you and she comes across as much younger than her age as well. Must be a 'Year of the Monkey' thing. Anyway, you're only as old as you feel right?

I thoroughly agree with a cousin of mine who once said to me on aging "You know, I don't feel old until I look in the mirror." It sure does sneak up on ya! I'm also very much looking forward to living long enough to get back all of the money the government has stolen from me for their Ponzi scheme.. with interest!
