I eek out survival on Social Security. After bills I have $20 left. I have not worked for 4 years, so it is a drag sending out resumes.

In my mind, the crime of social security is how it's managed. The government insists that the cash withheld all be invested solely in government debt. The government has to maintain the valuation of that debt, I guess, the triple-A rating so valued by the state lovers, or the Ponzi scheme would quickly end. So there is that.

The government could have allowed a portion to go into the stock market. This would have helped even up the have and have-not score that sorely is out of line. Just think if even a quarter of your social security withholding went into a market tracking fund over your working life. Now the meager citizen could participate in the most incredible wealth-building system ever invented. Everyone would be a winner. Well, except for the Treasury Department.
